Regional Development Australia (RDA) Wheatbelt is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Special Project Officer (the officer) to continue to deliver its defence manufacturing project to Wheatbelt businesses.

The Wheatbelt Defence Project aims to identify the capabilities and potential of Wheatbelt businesses in the manufacturing and construction industries with the aim to assist in the development of subcontracts for such businesses with the Department of Defence contractors (Primes).

The officer will undertake work related to business engagement across the Wheatbelt, which will provide greater clarity on the defence manufacturing capabilities of the region. 

Engagement with businesses in the region is the core element of the project, ensuring relevant businesses are consulted on their interest, capability, and the pathways to proceed with such an undertaking.

The overall outcome of the project is to provide Wheatbelt manufacturing businesses with the opportunity to showcase their capabilities, by providing an overall capability assessment and report for the region, linking businesses with Primes and the ability to hold subcontracts.

The successful candidate will be required to have strong project management experience.  

The Role

The role of the Special Project Officer is to continue RDA Wheatbelt’s defence manufacturing project, including:

• Facilitating engagement with Wheatbelt manufacturers and other businesses, Office of Defence Industry Support, defence contractors, any other relevant Government Departments, and other identified key stakeholders with involvement in the manufacturing and/or defence industry.
• Facilitate support mechanisms for Wheatbelt manufacturers to develop capabilities for sub-contracts with Defence Primes.
• Develop a comprehensive strategy to provide ongoing support for Wheatbelt businesses participating in the defence manufacturing sector.
• Document stakeholder engagement insights and analyse existing data on the capabilities of Wheatbelt’s manufacturing sector in relation to defence industry requirements, identifying gaps, challenges, and opportunities.
• Create clear, accessible resources and guidance materials to assist prospective businesses in entering and sustaining participation in the defence manufacturing sector.
